Index funds and ETFs are gaining in popularity with small investors. In 2015, I  started to allocate a larger proportion of my portfolio into more low cost, diversified index funds such as Vanguard Lifestrategy. However, in 2018 I started to move my portfolio towards more sustainable 'green' solutions which is obviously problematic for traditional index funds as they contain all the companies listed in the index which includes many fossil fuel producers. I am hoping more genuine climate-friendly ESG index options will become available over time which exclude the big oil and coal companies to meet the needs of climate-conscious investors.
