Index funds and ETFs are gaining in popularity with small investors. They now account for over 13% of the market in the UK.

During 2015, I reviewed my investing strategy and as a result, I  allocated a larger proportion of my portfolio into more low cost, diversified index funds. However, in 2018 I started to move my portfolio towards more sustainable 'green' solutions which is obviously problematic for index funds as they contain all the companies listed in the index which includes many fossil fuel producers. I am hoping climate-friendly index options will be launched soon which will resolve my conflict.
